Treffbildscheibe TS-721 (Target Pattern Plate TS-721)
Acoustic target pattern plate for the automatic capture of supersonic projectiles — active area 1.5 × 1.5 m, calibers 4.6–40 mm, use in firing range and field.
Description
The TS 721 acoustic target pattern plate is used for the automatic capture of the target pattern of projectiles traveling at supersonic speed. A sensor array captures the shock wave of each projectile and determines the impact position with an accuracy of ½ caliber at 900 m/s. The caliber range extends from 4.6 mm to 40 mm and explicitly includes tracer ammunition.

The sensors are protected from environmental influences by folding covers. This prevents premature aging and the associated loss of accuracy. As an extension, a heater for operation down to −15 °C and a radio transmission module are optionally available.

Application
The TS 721 is suitable both for use in the firing range and for field operation. The active measurement area of 1.5 × 1.5 m lies exclusively above the plate — making the system easy to protect from projectile impact with a steel plate or pit installation. Custom sizes of the active area are available on request.
For mobile field deployment, transport rollers and a setup aid for angle-precise alignment are available as accessories. The heater enables operation at ambient temperatures down to −15 °C; the radio transmission module makes the plate independent of signal cables between the target and operator positions.
Software & evaluation
Display and statistical evaluation per shot are handled by PC software. It provides the data important to ammunition and weapon manufacturers about the position in the target pattern, the target velocity (450 – 2000 m/s, measurement error ≤ ±3 %) and the residual energy of the projectile calculated from these.
For automatic weapons, the rate of fire can additionally be determined up to 1200 rounds/min, with a rate-of-fire error of less than 0.1 % at the upper end of the measurement range. Statistical evaluation functions consolidate series into target patterns and allow direct assessment of ammunition lots and weapon systems.
Applications
- Automatic target pattern capture in firing range and field test stand
- Acceptance and quality testing at ammunition and weapon manufacturers
- Velocity and residual energy measurement at the target
- Rate-of-fire determination on fully automatic weapons
- Mobile field operation thanks to transport rollers, radio transmission and heating
